Dallas County Master Gardener Association 2024 Garden Tour
Join us for the Dallas County Master Gardener Association 2024 Garden Tour featuring 5 private home gardens and a public demonstration garden, as well as a new concept to the tour this year – two “bonus” pass-by gardens that are just too packed full of native and adaptive botanical marvels to leave out. The East Dallas/Old Lake Highlands area was selected for this year’s tour (4 homes in OLH!) as a prime location for showcasing the natural beauty of the surrounding areas of Dallas’ “hidden gem,” White Rock Lake. Trained docents and expert speakers will be on hand at each featured garden answering questions and giving advice. Topics will include propagation, native plant selection, gardening with shade, composting and “winged things,” to name a few. Tickets are available for $18 in advance or $22 at the door.
For tickets and more information, go to www.dallascountymastergardeners.org
Forward Dallas Town Hall
Monday, May 6th, Council Member Paula Blackmon will be hosting a Forward Dallas Town Hall from 6-7 PM at the St. John’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 848 Harter Road. You will hear from Paula as well as a brief overview of Forward Dallas from the City of Dallas Planning and Urban Design department.
This event is a direct response to your requests from our General Meeting—your voice matters, and we listened! At Paula’s request, the meeting will also be open to other District 9 neighbors.
The bulk of the meeting will be dedicated to questions about Forward Dallas, so please get up to speed on this very important topic prior to next Monday’s meeting. Click here to see the latest version of the plan, find the map of our neighborhood, and more information on upcoming meetings. If you plan on attending, we recommend getting there before 6 PM as these sessions in other Dallas districts have been standing room only.

We're initiating a beautification project! The City of Dallas has generously provided 15 (30-gallon) trees for planting in the median on Easton between Clary and Van Dyke. OLHNA member, Mark Shumann, will be overseeing the project.
We’re looking for at least 10 volunteers to help plant the trees. The city has scheduled to prep the planting sites for us beforehand.
All volunteers will be provided with high-visibility vests and water. Please bring along work gloves, spades, rakes, and any other tools you have that could be helpful.
If you’re able to help, please sign up here. It's a great opportunity to contribute to our community's beauty!
Oh, and if you have any kids who need community service hours they can get credit by helping too! No need to stay the entire time — helping out for even 30 minutes can be a huge help!
