November Home of the Month
To make it happen, they temporarily relocated to an Airbnb, navigating daily life and construction plans with a large amount of creativity and a careful eye on their budget. After five months, they returned to a reimagined home—a space crafted uniquely for their growing family.
Drawn to Old Lake Highlands
Since moving here in February 2019, the family has felt deeply connected to Old Lake Highlands.
They fell in love with the “house on a hill”, knowing it had only been owned by one family before. The home’s history gave them a foundation to build upon, and while it retains its classic charm, the home now fully reflects their vision.

The Renovation: Transformation with Purpose
When they decided to expand, the goal was clear:
“To create space, increase functionality, improve design, and implement a space through a master bedroom just for my husband and me.”
They enclosed the old back porch to create a master suite, outfitted with a luxurious shower, freestanding tub, and two walk-in closets split by an attached island—a feature that adds both functionality and a touch of luxury.
Curating the Look: DIY Design with Inspiration from a Favorite Artist
Proud to have curated the design, drawing inspiration from Pinterest, neighborhood homes, and the creativity of talented local artists. Lauren Williams, in particular, inspired many elements of the home’s design, especially the shelf wall in the bathroom behind the bathtub. It’s built based on pictures of her work. Williams’ art and design philosophy became a guiding light throughout the renovation, and they proudly hang her "Canvas With Movement" piece in their home.
Building a Dream Home Together
The project was a collaborative effort with HG & Co, a construction-design firm who helped bring their vision to life. From tearing down walls to moving plumbing and adding new fixtures, the renovation reshaped the home into a functional, family-centered space.
Looking back, the couple feels proud of what they accomplished together.
“If you really put your mind to something, you can accomplish it—no matter what else is going on in your life!”
They took on this transformation with two small children, countless obstacles, and a spirit of teamwork that kept everything moving forward. Their advice to anyone considering a renovation journey?
“Be flexible with ideas and plans because they will change throughout the process!”
Now, the master suite and the patio have become the most beloved parts of the home, spaces that truly represent the family’s vision and hard work.
This isn’t just a house anymore; it’s a testament to their resilience, creativity, and a beautiful reflection of their family life here in Old Lake Highlands.
